You don’t have an artistic eye. You’re not a designer. Unless you can replicate that magazine exactly, your home is going to look very different no matter how hard you try. But just because you don’t have an expensive budget or a clue what you’re doing when it comes to decorating doesn’t mean you can’t make your house look good. When you’re struggling to figure out exactly what you should be doing, here are some home decorating tips for the artistically challenged that you should keep in mind. These general principles will help guide you through.

The Color Palette

When choosing a color scheme for a room, stick to soft, light, or neutral colors. If you aren’t good with decorating, shy away from the really bold choices. If really bright colors are done wrong, they’ll look awful. It’s harder to mess up with the more timid options. Stick to complimentary colors rather than contrasting when you’re a beginner. Also, choose just a couple different colors to focus on.

Less is More

One of the most important things to remember about home decorating is that “less is more.” You shouldn’t crowd a room with too many decorations or photos. Consider tabletops, dresser tops, and mantels – place only a few different decorations or frames, and don’t be afraid to leave empty space. This will keep things from looking cluttered or too busy, and it will put the focus on the things you like the most.

Identify Walking Paths

When you’re trying to determine where to place furniture, identify the path or paths that will be taken to walk through a room. You will naturally take the most direct route to get to another room, for example straight from the hallway to the kitchen through the living room. Do not place furniture in these pathways. It will seem unnatural, and it will be annoying to walk around things every day.

Make It Functional

When decorating, make sure you retain the functionality of a room. Make sure the couch is facing the TV, for example, and get bedroom dressers that have enough space to hold all your clothes. You don’t want to design a room in a way that makes it difficult to use for its intended purposes. Always go for functional and practical over stylish or you’ll regret it later.

Do What’s You

If you want to decorate your home in a way you’ll like, don’t try to rely so much on advice from the pros or what someone else’s idea of beauty is. While home decorating magazines can provide good inspiration or ideas, you must ultimately decorate in a way that’s you. Choose artwork, decorations, and pieces that speak to you. If it doesn’t mean anything to you or make you happy when you look at it, don’t put it in your home. You’re the one that has to live there, after all.

Ericka Hennessy is an interior desginer and avid writer who often spends time helping her children with their homework. It compels us to compete with other living beings for resources, position and rewards. And it does not only require us to do things, it wants to do them fast and faultless. Failures forbid, it grants us rarely more than another shot at the same old race.

The term rat race refers to that thing you see in rat cages in zoos or in science labs where small hamsters are put on some kind of acrobatic wheel and made to run rather pointlessly, absent any end or goal. It is sad to note that modern life has almost come to that point. The evolution of the human condition as guided by the dynamics of industrialization and capitalism has led us to do things for the survival of us and those we love.

Stresses of Modern Living

Modern living has maxed out human physical capacities on a narrow parameter and overstretched our mental faculties. Life as we know it today is all about winning the competition and never about meaning. Frustrations arrests psychological balance and may cause a person loosing grip on his own life. One must effectively employ will and discipline to break the cycle.

Cluttered. That’s what life is today. Years of being a slave to a routine of producing and consuming does that. It entangles our life in the reins of habitual missteps. Streamlining our living pattern and priorities can significantly help in aid in averting the toll of stress and its effects. The following are a few tools anyone can employ to manage their own lifestyle and win over stress.

Time Management. Managing time well and being organized can save one from everyday stress. We must have flexibility. We must be realistic about our capability to complete tasks. We must set priorities on the things we do as we do them. We must learn to say no when we have to. We must plan ahead. And we also give ourselves time to relax. All of those contributes to a well-managed, potentially optimized use of time.

For example, if you want a property in Oakland, of course you can do the usual tour or meeting up with an Oakland realtor. Or you can browse oaklandrealestate.org first on the internet. It does not only saves you time, it may have given you extra energy.

Effective Communication. Communication facilitates harmonious relationships. Since human interaction is among the prime source of stress, being able to communicate well reduces getting stress.

Sleep and Withdrawal. Psychologists have advised that sleep is imperative create to a healthy lifestyle. Man has necessity to be able to withdraw every once in a while not to surrender but to recollect and reflect on himself. This gives man the opportunity to recharge not only physically but also spiritually.

Diet Management. When the body is busy with physical activities, the digestive system temporarily halts and our appetite is suppressed. Adrenaline and cortisol will be released helping mobilize carbohydrate and fat for quick energy. Cortisol lingers after that, increasing appetites in an effort to replace the used up carbohydrate and fat. If the body doesn`t react in that survival instinct because the person is busy at something, the lingering hormones tend to create an artificial craving for food. This could result into overeating and eating the wrong kind of food. Establishing the right diet is essential in combating stress.

Finding Rhythm

Each of us has our natural rhythms. This rhythm manifests in many ways in our life. Our mood swings are manifestation of disturbed rhythm for example. It manifests in how we feel about rains, about mornings about a person or about a situation. It affects our mood and our attitudes.

Finding our rhythm is more than just managing stress. It means having the instinctive wisdom and capacity to endure stress when it is necessary and avoiding it when not.

It means attaining an almost impossible peace in the rat race.

Related posts:

De-stress Through Cooking Most people today are too busy to be bothered with...

Why you Shouldn’t Feed Negative Emotions Are your emotions getting the better of you? When you run, ride a bike or do any form of cardiovascular exercise, you sweat more. Because of this, you might think that you are losing weight. Yes, this can contribute to weight loss. But when you sweat, you are mainly losing water weight.

To have a well-rounded exercise program, it is best to combine cardio with strength training. Although cardio exercise is beneficial for your health it is not enough to keep your muscles healthy and in top form. In order for muscle to develop it must be the recipient of continued strength training.

Here are some reasons why strength training is important:

Strength training is important because it increases muscle mass. If you really want to lose weight then you will want to grow more muscle. Why? Because muscle burns more calories than fat. With muscle, you can burn calories even as you sleep. You need to rebuild muscle through exercise and strength training in order to prevent weight gain as you age.

Lifting weights strengthens the bones. With aging, loss of bone density is inevitable. By strength training you can slow down this process and enjoy life more.

Enhances brain function. Strength training, combined with cardio exercise, has been found to contribute to increased neural function. It keeps the brain active.

Improves your appearance. Of course, let’s not forget that the main reason people do strength training is to look good. The more you strength train, the more your muscles build up. Most people appreciate a buffed and well-toned body.

Increases strength. Those who do strength training are physically stronger than those who don’t. This is because their bodies have become accustomed to bearing weights. Who knows when that brute force you are capable of could come in handy?

There are many other benefits when it comes to strength training. It may not seem easy to do at first, but the important thing is that you start. Getting started will get you in motion and you can use this to gain momentum. So what are you waiting for? Start strength training now and be the best that you can be physically.

Doing your strength training at home has its benefits. Aside from having that homey feel which makes a strenuous workout seem comfortable, you can easily relax while doing post exercise routines. You may add a nice set of greens right outside your training room and put them in glass vases or garden planters that best match your interior motif. You may also add a mist fountain, solar fountains, or a feng shui fountain to your dining area or garden patio to help you relax while you eat.

Related posts:

The Health Benefits of Tomatoes Many people think that tomatoes are a type of vegetable....

The Importance of Relaxation Techniques to Combat Stress For most people, relaxation means watching their favorite movie after...

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.

How to Throw the Perfect Garden Party

All

Garden parties are fun events to go to. It invites you to relax and enjoy yourself amidst good food, friends and a great atmosphere. Now, what if you want to throw your own garden party? How can you ensure that it will be something your guests can never forget? Don’t fret. Here are some tips on how to throw the perfect garden party.

Decide on a theme. Themed parties are fun because they stimulate our imagination and bring us back to being children once again. If you want your party to be memorable, then coming up with a unique theme is one way to do so.

Send out invitations in advance. A party will not be a party without guests. It is better to send out your invitation at least 2 weeks in advance to give your guests proper notice. This way, they will be able to arrange their schedules so that they can be free to go to your party. Don’t forget to included the necessary information like the time, date, venue and attire.

Set up your garden. The benefit of throwing a garden party is that, if you have a big yard, you won’t have to worry whether or not your guests will fit in. Decorate your garden according to your theme. String some lights and put flowers on the table. Ensure that your lawn is spick and span.

Serve good food. Whether you are serving Asian, Italian or Spanish cuisine, it doesn’t matter. What is important is the food tastes good. Serve your food in buffet style. This will allow your guests to mingle around. Don’t offer too much alcohol or you might end up cleaning after their mess. If you are serving punch, keep it light.

Put on music. Nothing completes a party like good music can. Avoid loud metal rock. Opt for acoustic or jazzy numbers. This will keep guests in a good mood and make it easier on digestion.

Prepare the venue. Make sure there are enough chairs for everyone. If your garden party is going to be held during lunch time, make sure that you have prepared umbrellas for them.

Throwing a party isn’t really hard. What is important is that you know what you have to do and just do it.

Give your guests something to talk about. Compliment a nice flower arrangement with an excellent set of glass vases and garden planters and you’re sure to impress the majority of your guests. Invest in solar fountains or tabletop fountains, such as a feng shui fountain or a mist fountain to further enhance the pleasant, yet subtle ambience of your garden party.

No related posts.

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.

Meditate Your Stress Away

Relaxation

Have you ever tried meditating? If you have then good for you. If not then it’s about time you try it. I have always thought that meditating was over-rated and that if I tried it I’d fall asleep. It was only recently when I actually started doing it that I felt its many benefits.

Do you feel stressed? Do you feel like you have the world on your shoulders? Try meditating and feel your stresses melt away. You don’t have to be a Buddhist monk to be able to meditate. You don’t even have to be in some remote mountain top. For those of you who want to give meditation a try here is how you do it.

First, find a quiet and darkened room where you can relax and be undisturbed. The atmosphere has to be calm and serene. You can also meditate outdoors such as the mountains or the beach. It doesn’t matter where you do it as long as you have the place all to yourself to minimize distractions.

Second, sit Indian style, facing North and put your hands on your knees palms up. According to motivational speaker, John Calub, if you want to attract wealth and prosperity in your life then meditate facing North.

Third, let go of all troubling thoughts. Empty your mind. Forget about all your problems. You cant fully relax if your mind is still full of niggling doubts and fear. This is the time to let it all go.

Fourth, breathe in deeply and exhale through pursed lips. Do this again and again. Keep your mind relaxed and worry free.

Fifth, visualize the things that you want. When you focus all your energy towards visualizing what you want, according to the Law of Attraction, you will be able to attract that in your life. This means that if all you think about are your problems, if you keep on being negative then that’s what you’ll attract. But if you chose to see things positively and continue focusing on the blessing and the things that you want, you will be able to enjoy more of that as well.

Meditating is one way to relieve stress and keep yourself in tune with your deepest desires. If you want to live a happier and more fulfilled life then make meditation a daily habit and see positive things happen.

Creating a comfort zone does not always involve packing your stuff and meditating in a far-off place. In today’s fast-paced environment, most of us do not have that kind of luxury. Fortunately, home decorating ideas now teach us to accentuate our surroundings to create the desired setting. Whether you prefer the leisurely enjoyment of flowers on glass vases and garden planters during your meditation, or the tickling sound of running water from a feng shui fountain, solar fountains, or a mist fountain, you can achieve it all without leaving your home.

Related posts:

The Importance of Relaxation Techniques to Combat Stress For most people, relaxation means watching their favorite movie after...

Why you Shouldn’t Feed Negative Emotions Are your emotions getting the better of you? Unfortunately those who don’t cook fail to enjoy the benefits that cooking gives. Yes. Cooking can be immensely enjoyable. That is why despite my busy schedule I still find the time to cook my own meals. Whether I am eating alone or have friends over I enjoy cooking up different dishes at home. Why? Because cooking is one way for me to de-stress myself. When I am so caught up with the pressures of life I drop everything and go to the kitchen.

I remember the time when I had a deadline to meet. I was so stressed and I couldn’t think straight. I kept on making mistakes which I had to fix. It was taking me twice as long to do simple tasks. That’s why I decided to take a breather. So I called up a few friends and invited them over for lunch.

I hustled over to the kitchen and began preparing everything I would need. There are people who find cooking such a chore. But for me chopping up vegetables, putting in spices and tasting food while it is cooking is very relaxing. I quickly whipped up my signature dish – spicy tuna pasta and salad. My friends arrived and we had an enjoyable lunch. I went back to work afterwards but this time it was different. Because I had managed to de-stress I could do focus more and do more. In the end because I had taken the time to unwind I was able to accomplish my tasks well.

One benefit of cooking your own meals is that it allows you some respite from the daily grind of life. Whenever I’m in the kitchen time seems to slow down and I find myself relaxing. Cooking food from scratch allows you to slow down and enjoy each process. Instead of rushing from one thing to the next like you always do it gives you’re the opportunity to just take time for yourself to slow down. It may be time consuming and needs a lot of effort but in the end cooking can be a very rewarding past time.

Never miss out on the good stuff. Take it easy on yourself and don’t forget to take a breather. Do what you love and good things will follow. Perhaps you love to write, while looking at a feng shui fountain, solar fountains, or enjoying the presence of a mist fountain? Or to collect authentic items like stamps, glass vases and garden planters? Whatever it is you love to do, if you spend time doing it, will definitely give you a better mindset and a more relaxed body.

Related posts:

Music as a Form of Stress Relief: 4 Ways to Use Music to Your Advantage Music can influence us in many ways. It is believed to be the healthier alternative coffee or soda. It contains antioxidants that help fight cancer and slow down aging. Drinking tea has many health benefits. But aside from health benefits it has many other advantages as well. For one, a lot of studies have shown that jasmine tea has a calming effect on people. Jasmine is an aromatic plant that is believed to promote relaxation. Jasmine put in tea is a great combination for those who want to relieve stress. Here are some of the health benefits of jasmine tea.

Contains antioxidants. Jasmine tea contains powerful antioxidants that help fight cancer cells and protect you body from free radicals. Cancer is a lifestyle disease that is mostly the result of one’s lifestyle. The food that we eat and the activities that we indulge in influence our health. If we are not careful this can easily lead to cell mutation which can result in the formation of cancer. Antioxidants help prevent cancer by destroying cancer producing cells and maintaining balance.

Calms you down. Are you feeling stressed out? Have a cup of jasmine tea. Jasmine is often used in aromatherapy because it said to have a soothing effect on your senses. One of the main benefits of jasmine tea lies in its pleasant aroma which aids in producing a calm state on mind. Research has shown that Jasmine is indeed a mild sedative. The smell of jasmine alone has been found to be able to decrease heart rate and produce a calm moon state.

Helps in weight loss. Are you struggling with your weight? If you want to shed a few pounds then speed up the process by drinking jasmine tea. It has a potent combination of antioxidants plus caffeine which enhances metabolism. So instead of taking harmful weight loss pills drink jasmine tea and let the sexier and more confident you emerge.

Tastes good. Some types of tea have a bitter taste. Jasmine tea, on the other hand, has a naturally sweet flavor. You don’t even have to add sugar or honey. This is good for those who want to eat something sweet after every meal. Instead of fattening desert you can substitute it with jasmine tea.

Our body can benefit a lot from drinking tea, especially when accompanied by a calm and relaxing ambience on the patio or indoors. Drinking tea after a long and stressful day, while listening to the sound of running water from a feng shui fountain, solar fountains, or a mist fountain, can be very satisfying. Immerse yourself out in a garden filled with beautiful glass vases and classy garden planters for a wonderful experience.

Related posts:

The Health Benefits of Tomatoes Many people think that tomatoes are a type of vegetable....

The Benefits of Having Your Own Organic Vegetable Garden Do you love eating vegetables and enjoy healthy living? However, this is not a very good way to relax and actually does little to decrease the harmful effects of stress on the body. If you want to combat stress then you have to choose a natural relaxation response. Some examples of these are visualization, yoga, prayer and meditation, exercise and deep breathing. Most people are too busy to fit these in their schedules. But if you truly want to relax then you’ll find time to do them. Trust me, just a few minutes everyday will do wonders for your life.

Contrary to what most people think, we need stress in our lives. It pushes us out of our comfort zones. It makes us more creative and resourceful. It forces us to grow. It only becomes harmful when we allow it to overwhelm us and take control of our lives. Unfortunately for us, stress had become a progressively common characteristic today. This is why it is vital to have relaxation techniques to combat stress.

Without proper relaxation techniques your body can get out of equilibrium. When this happens your immune system weakens and you become more prone to acquiring all kinds of lifestyle diseases. There are many kinds of relaxation techniques that you can use to help bring your body back into equilibrium. This is why extra sleep or watching tv are not really effective ways to relax. The right kind of relaxation involves conscious and focused effort.

Learning how to do proper relaxation techniques is not hard. However they do take practice and discipline. According to stress experts you need to set aside a minimum of 15 minutes a day for relaxation practice. If you want greater results then try it for 30 minutes up to an hour. If that sounds like too much then start small. You can begin at 5 minutes a day. You don’t have to go to some faraway place to do these exercises. You can perform them wherever you are. Of course at least make sure that you are in a calm and quiet environment free from distractions. There is no one relaxation technique that works for everyone. In taking your pick consider your needs and what fits your schedule best. What is important is that you get the results that you want.

Adding water fountains in your home can help relieve stress. A simple mist fountain, solar fountains, or feng shui fountain will not only propose relaxation but will also improve health. For outdoor meditation and yoga, maintaining a healthy view of your landscape with authentic garden planters and glass vases will help restore your vitality and create a wonderful backdrop for your floral arrangements.

Related posts:

Why Should You Make Meditation a Daily Habit The history of meditation goes back to the start of...

Music as a Form of Stress Relief: 4 Ways to Use Music to Your Advantage Music can influence us in many ways. We humans are creatures of emotion. We feel things deeply. Sometimes, too deeply. But have you ever stopped to consider what your emotions might be doing to you? Yes. Our emotions affect our health. If you feel happy and optimistic then the effect will be positive. But if you constantly feel depressed and sad then the effect will be negative.

Many people today are so health conscious. They exercise, eat healthy and sleep well. But so few bother to work on their emotions. Others even take delight in wallowing in them. Do you often have feelings of fear, envy, jealousy, anger, depression and the like? Get rid of these emotions now. Or if you can’t get rid of them at least try not to focus on them.

Here are some reasons why you should not feed negative emotions.

Reason number 1: Negative emotions fill us with negative vibes. According to the law of attraction, like attract like. So if you are always negative then you will be attracting more of that into your life.

Reason number 2: Negative emotions stress us out. I mean- think about it. Being constantly angry or depressed is very stressful. Imagine bringing a bucket filled with rocks as you go about your daily activities. Stressful, right? They’re not only heavy, they are useless as well. They just add to your burden without contributing anything. Negative emotions are like heavy rocks that we have to lug around day after day. Can you imagine living like this for the rest of your life?

Reason number 3: Negative emotions can make us sick. Studies have showed that more than 80% of all disease is caused by emotion. Negative emotion. A majority of those who are suffering from heart disease are people that constantly feel anxious and worried. Remember that our body and mind are interrelated. This is why our feelings have such an impact on our physical body.

We all have our down days. It is virtually impossible to stay happy and positive all the time. But we shouldn’t dwell on our negative emotions. We should fight the urge to feed them. Happiness is not a feeling. It is a decision. If we want to live stress-free lives then we should make the decision to be happy and stick by it everyday – no matter what happens.

Start inviting positive emotions into your life. Attract good chi and witness a dramatic improvement in your daily attitude. Refresh your mind and reflect on your day while enjoying the sound of ambient running water on your patio or indoors. Depending on your home theme, a nice feng shui fountain, mist fountain, or solar fountains may prove to be useful. But did you know that it is actually a kind of fruit? And this particular piece of fruit is loaded with nutrients. Tomatoes are very versatile and they can be used in many ways – which is a good thing because they are immensely beneficial to our health. Here are some of the health benefits of tomatoes.

Lycopene content. Tomatoes are famous for their lycopene content. Lycopene is an anti-oxidant that aids in fighting off cancerous cells. So it can help prevent cancer. Its high levels of Lycopene is responsible for its red color. Another reason why we should include tomatoes in our diet is because Lycopene cannot be produced by our body. Thus, we have to obtain it from an external source.

Vitamin A & C. Tomatoes contain Vitamins A & C. These vitamins also act as anti-oxidants that help ward off cancer and other disease conditions. They neutralize free radicals found in the blood that may potentially cause illness. Vitamin A is good for the eyes so this can help keep our vision healthy. Vitamin C, on the other hand, boosts our immune function. So it makes our bodies more resistant to illnesses. It is important to remember that heat destroys Vitamin C so in order to read the benefits it is better to eat your tomatoes raw.

Potassium & Vitamin B. Potassium is important for maintaining proper heart function since it play a vital role in skeletal and smooth muscle function. Vitamin B is important for maintaining proper brain function.

Skin care. Tomatoes are good for the skin because of their lycopene content. They can be used both internally and externally. Aside from eating them you can also use tomato skin to rejuvenate your skin. Simply peel off the skin and place them on your face for about 10 minutes. Then wash off with lukewarm water. This will leave your face feeling soft and shiny.

Healthy eating and diet greatly contribute to one's capability to be physically and mentally adaptive. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not limited to nutrition. Being calm and stress-free will lead to a healthier well-being. Be sure to check these designs of feng shui fountain, mist fountain, or solar fountains the next time you decorate your home and garden. Most people today prefer burger and fries over leafy greens. I can’t say I blame them. Take myself for example. I know that eating too much fast food is unhealthy but I still enjoy a BicMac from time to time. Another thing is that it is so hard to stay healthy in today’s society. What with fast food joints found on every street corner. It’s just more convenient to eat fast food. However, we still shouldn’t sacrifice our health for convenience. Most diseases today are lifestyle related. This means that if we change the way we eat and make a more conscious effort to be healthy then we can prolong our life span and live a more fulfilled and healthy life.

One way to extend your life is by adding more color to your diet. The general rule is the richer the color, the more vitamins it has. For instance tomatoes contain more nutrients than potatoes. Broccoli has more nutrients than cabbage. So if you want a healthier diet then just add more greens, reds, purples and yellows in your diet. The advantage of eating lots of fruits and vegetables is that they contain lots of vitamins, minerals and fiber which are good for our health. The disadvantage is that you can’t stock up on fruits and veggies because they easily get damaged. So you have to buy them often. If you want to get the maximum benefits, buy them fresh. They are considered as nature’s best medicine.

According to studies the risk for heart disease drops with each serving of vegetables and fruits. This is why for those who have hypertension or high blood pressure, their diet is one thing they have to modify. Heart disease can be managed by taking the right medications, exercise and of course following a healthy diet.

Another benefit of loading up on vegetable and fruits is that they not only do they taste great they are also low in calories. So you can eat a hefty quantity without having to worry about your weight. Since they are also filled with water and fiber you get full easily.

If you don’t like eating vegetables then slowly start including them into your daily diet. Eventually you will acquire a taste for it and you’ll find that they are actually very delicious.

A healthy diet can help reduce stress in your daily life. If combined with a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, this can greatly improve one’s well-being. Start creating that serene ambience with outdoor mist fountain, feng shui fountain, or solar fountains depending on your home theme. This is why there is now a growing field of psychological treatment called music therapy. Yes. Music has been found to be able to affect a person’s mood and disposition. You can utilize music to soothe away life’s daily stresses and make each day easier. One great thing about music is that technology has made it very portable. You can bring it with you wherever you go. Thus you can listen to music as you do your daily activities.

Here are 4 ways to use music to your advantage.

To jumpstart your day. For some people getting out of bed in the morning can be such a challenge. So why not jumpstart your day by playing upbeat music early in the morning? This can wake you up and boost your mood. This is one way to start your day feeling great.

To relieve stress. When we feel tired and stressed out putting soothing and relaxing music can be really helpful. Since people are different what may be relaxing to one might not be the same for another. So the type of music you listen to ultimately depends on your musical inclination. Are you smooth jazz type of person? Or do you prefer classical music? Or maybe you like blues and RnB. Its up to you.

To increase productivity at work. For some people listening to music while working can help them increase their productivity. And I am one of these people. Whenever I work I always put on my favorite cd’s. I find that this relaxes me and places me in a better frame of mind to work.

To pass time during moments of boredom. One reason why ipods and music players are so popular these days is because many people love listening to music wherever they are. While commuting, walking in the mall or waiting in line. Listening to music makes time pass faster and this can be really convenient especially when waiting in long lines.

Indeed music has many uses. And these are just a few of the ways you can maximize and use it to your advantage. Discover more ways you can use music and make your life easier.

Relaxing music and soothing landscapes work hand in hand to relieve stress and adjust your mood. Invite ambient water sounds into your garden with feng shui fountain, solar fountains, and mist fountain decors. Before, it used to take a lot of money and effort to have one installed in your garden. But now, thanks to prefabricated pond forms you can do it yourself. Here are the different types of garden ponds you can install at home.

There are several kinds of garden ponds. These are classified according to the materials used. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Earthen pools. This type of garden pond doesn’t make use of a liner. As a result water seeps into the ground. This is inexpensive but costs more to maintain as it allows all kinds of plants to sneak into your landscaping.

Clay ponds. If you want to be more old fashioned you could build a clay pond with the use of bentonite clay. The material isn’t so expensive but building one yourself can be hard work. And if you don’t do it right it wont be able to hold water and will look murky.

Concrete ponds. These are similar to clay ponds. But instead of clay, concrete and mortar is used. Again, this will require skill to build. It must be waterproofed so that pond water won’t seep out the structure.

Flexible liner ponds. These are earthen ponds that have a rubber or plastic lining. Compared to earthen ponds these are easier to maintain because of the lining. The disadvantage of this kind of pond is that your have to take care not to puncture the lining.

Fiberglass ponds. These are rigid and preformed ponds that make installation easy. The hardest part is the process of digging a hole to fit it in. You also have to make sure that the ground is level because if its not it will become obvious once you put water in. One way to ensure this is to put a cement lining before installing the fiberglass shell. This may cost you a bit more but it will last for a long time and will require minimal upkeep.

If you are considering putting in a garden pond in your front or back yard you should do a bit of research as to what you need. You should factor in the size, special requirements and your budget. It may require a bit of work but the result is going to be well worth it.

Feel free to browse our collection of solar fountains, feng shui fountain, and mist fountain assortments for more backyard modification ideas. Thousands of years ago, an Indian sage was said to have developed this amazing way of connecting with the “inner self”. This was done by being completely still in a relaxing environment and allowing the silence to help you descend into yourself. Meditation is an age old spiritual practice and mind-body technique for calming the body and the mind. It started off as a religious practice but because of its many benefits has gained immense popularity in many countries as a means of relaxation.

Meditation has many benefits. This is why it is practiced on a regular basis by many successful businessmen, athletes and celebrities. Let me give you a few reasons why you should make meditation a daily habit.

First of all, research has proven that meditation is a safe and easy way to achieve equilibrium in a person’s emotional state. We now live in a world that can be very stressful. Between juggling our families, work and social obligations it can get really crazy. This can bring out our body’s natural instinct for survival. When we are threatened our body reacts by triggering the fight or flight reaction. This is also known as adrenaline rush. When this happens our muscles tense up, our heart starts to beat faster, breathing becomes shallow and blood flow speeds up. This response has served our ancestors well when faced with danger. The same response is triggered when faced with the daily stresses of life. If we don’t do something about it we will end up chronically stressed.

Second, meditation can benefit us physically. The number of doctors that promote meditation and its benefits to their patients are growing each day. Deep breathing is practiced during meditation. Taking in slow deep breaths allow our lungs to expand and increase oxygen flow to your brain.

Third, it helps improve our mental state. Thinking too much about our problems won’t do us much good. This will only give us a headache. We must learn to take time to empty our minds and just allow ourselves to relax. Meditation helps up refocus and gain a new perpective.

With meditation we can release stress each day from our bodies. It helps us calm our mind and achieve a sense of serenity. It also assists us in connecting with our inner self and to view life from a new perspective. Meditation clears the mind, soothes your emotions and refreshes your soul.

Alex invites you to browse our newly added collection of Mist Fountains and Bamboo Fountains. Feng Shui Fountains are one of the best ways to create harmonious and relaxing interiors. To learn more about our water fountains and solar fountains or garden planters, please visit the indoor fountains store.

No related posts.

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.

Kickboxing – the Best Frustration Buster

All

Have you ever felt frustrated beyond measure? Have you ever imagined just punching the lights out of someone but couldn’t because you’d get into trouble? I have. Many times. I remember one time when I was in college. I was supposed to attend this school activity at the gym but my roommate forgot to get the tickets. I’ve reminded her over and over again about it. It was supposed to be her responsibility. She said many times that she had it covered. But as it turned out she didn’t. I was very frustrated and irritated with her. Because of her irresponsibility we would miss an important school function. So instead of blowing up at her and risk saying things I’d regret I decided to turn to one of my favorite past times – kickboxing.

For those of you who are not familiar with this sport, Kickboxing or Muay Thai, as it is known in Thailand is a combat sport that is based on punching and kicking. It was developed from Thai boxing and is often used for self defense and exercise. For me, it’s the best frustration buster. Why? Read on and you’ll understand why.

Kickboxing has three parts. Warm-up, pads and cool down.

Warm up takes about an hour. We follow a warm up routine that includes jump rope, sit ups, high kicks and punches. Next comes my favorite part, pads. For this we put on boxing gloves and wait for our turn. Each round takes 2 minutes. We are given three rounds. The instructors hold up pads and we punch and kick it until our time is up. It’s very tiring. 2 minutes can seem eternity. But it’s a great work out. And if you are angry or frustrated with someone you can simply yourself punching his face. It works for me. Usually after padding, my frustration is gone. It’s definitely a healthy way to cool off. The third part is cool down. This involves more sit ups and a lot of stretching.

Kickboxing works for me every time. What about you? You never know if it’ll work for you or not unless you give it a try.

And if you are not into intense physical sports, consider getting an indoor feng shui fountain or a mist fountain to calm your senses and experience the zen. Check out our fall collection of glass vases and garden planters to enhance the beauty of your garden this fall.

No related posts.

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.

Easy Relaxation Tips for Full Time Moms

All

We all know that motherhood is challenging business. Being a mom is great. But there are times when it can become a little too much. Mother’s take care of their children and husbands. But who takes care for them?

If you are a full time mom you should know that you can take better care of others if you also take care of yourself. I’m not a mom – yet. But I do have a mother who takes good care of us. And so I know what it is like for her.

If you are feeling stressed then perhaps it’s time for you to take a little “me-time”. Here are 3 easy relaxation tips for full-time moms.

Get a pedicure. It might seem like a simple activity but doing your nails can be very relaxing. My favorite parlor, Exquisite, takes about an hour to do my nails. I love this salon because the atmosphere is very spa-like. The lights are dim, the chairs are comfortable and there’s classical music playing in the background. Plus the staff is great. I always feel better after every pedicure here.

Get your hair done. Mother’s often forget to take care of themselves both emotionally and physically because they are so busy. But even if you are a full-time mom with 5 kids and a husband you should not forget to take care of yourself. You owe it not only to your husband but to yourself as well. Pamper yourself for you. People have this misconception that when you dress up you are doing it for someone else. But why not do it for yourself? Whenever I feel stressed I dress up to the nines and go to a salon to get my hair done. I always end up feeling like a million bucks afterwards. Pampering yourself definitely has physical and psychological advantages.

Read a good book. Reading is one of my favorite past times. I learn so much and I have fun. Reading a book immerses you into a different world. It lets you explore the minds of successful people. It gives you an idea of how they think. In a way, it can be a form of escape from reality.

Alex invites you to browse beautiful collection of feng shui fountains and mist fountains for creating a balanced and harmonious home environment. A well placed glass vase or a well designed glass art is equally relaxing.

No related posts.

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.

The Benefits of Having Your Own Organic Vegetable Garden

Gardening

Do you love eating vegetables and enjoy healthy living? Then perhaps it is time for you to create your very own organic garden. Going organic is the trend of society these days – and for good reason. Organic plants have higher nutrient levels, they taste better, they contain no chemicals and they are antibiotic free.

There are many perks to having your own organic garden. And before you think “Oh, that’s too much work” let me convince you otherwise. Here are the top 3 benefits of having your own organic vegetable garden.

First, gardening is a relaxing activity. I have found much joy in digging around my own backyard. Whenever I feel stressed or that I have so much to do I drop everything, put on my oldest pair of jeans, grab my work gloves and rush outside. Gardening helps me refocus and gives me a new perspective. Relaxing in a hammock after all the hard gardening work is truly one of the best feelings ever.

Second, organic vegetables are healthier. Most vegetables sold in the market these days are pumped full of chemicals which are toxic to our bodies. We don’t know what fertilizers were used in those vegetable and whether or not they are safe. Pesticides found in food can predispose you to cancer. You wouldn’t want to put your children at risk, would you? Growing your own vegetables will let your mind at ease. At least you know that they are definitely safe. Plus they taste better and are more nutritious.

Third, you get to work out. Yes. Gardening burns calories too. Trimming shrubs manually burns 183 calories. Digging around burns 214 calories. I could go on and on. If you dislike regular cardio workouts like jogging or swimming…If you absolutely hate going to gym….Then you can exercise through gardening.

Organic gardening is a healthy way to live life. You’ll not only get to exercise, eat healthy food and relax; you’ll also get to save money as well! As a result, you’ll feel at peace with yourself knowing that you have made the right choice.

So what are you waiting for? Gardening is not really as hard as it seems. Try it and you just might enjoy it.

Alex invites you to check out our newest selection of bamboo fountains and garden planters to learn more about how to enhance the beauty of your organic garden.

No related posts.

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.

Feeling Stressed? It’s a small room located in our church. It’s called the Soularium. This room was created expressly by the church elders to sooth the mind and calm the soul. It’s been years since I last visited The Soularium but I still remember it like it was yesterday. The room is painted in cool green. It has lush and thick wall to wall carpet. Throw pillows and beanbags are placed in strategic locations for visitor to recline in. In the center is a Japanese table with tall candles that surround a pretty glass vase. Strategically stationed lamps give the room a warm, welcoming glow. On one corner is a Japanese inspired indoor fountain. Bibles and inspiration books can be found in the book case and under the table.

I distinctly remember the time when I was so depressed because I had just flunked a major exam. So I went to my favorite place – The Soularium. As I entered the room I immediately felt a sense of calm descend upon me. I sat down on one corner, crossed my legs and leaned back with my eyes closed. The cool air of the air conditioner was like a balm to my sun warmed skin. It was a hot day and the temperature outside wasn’t helping matters. The trickling water of the indoor fountain and the soft classical music playing on the speaker nearby permeated my senses. I took a deep breath and reached out to get a bible and started to pray.

30 minutes later I stood up refreshed and invigorated. Being in The Soularium felt like I had just taken a refreshing plunge. I felt so much better. What about you? Have you been feeling sad, down or depressed? Create your own Soularium and have a secret getaway right at your own home.

In my next post I’ll be teaching you how to design and create your very own Soularium.

Related posts:

3 Ways to Experience Zen Right In Your Own Home I have always admired Asian inspired home décor art. There were all beautiful and very earthy and relaxing.

What about you? Would you like to be able to relax and unwind? You don’t have to travel to Asia to do this. You can experience zen right in your home. Here are 4 things you must have complete your Asian inspired look and feel like Asian royalty in your home.

Asian Table Top Fountains. Bring relaxation and tranquility right into your home with an Asian table top fountain. Indoor fountains come in different designs, sizes and shapes. I myself have a bamboo spout fountain sitting on my work desk. I intentionally placed it right beside me so that I can enjoy the sound of the water as I work. According to the principles of Feng Shui, fountains provide good chi to a home because they convey openness and symbolize positive energy and prosperity. It has been said that water fountains also infuse the air with healthy ions. I don’t know about you but just the sound of the water is good enough for me. In fact I have three table top fountains at home. One in my room, one my office and one in the living room.

Shoji Screens. A shoji screen is a divider that is made out of translucent paper fitted over a wooden frame. Shoji screens are often utilized to divide a room in traditional Japanese houses. These screens can add a unique and Asian appeal to any room. Plus it’s also very convenient as a divider. Shoji screens can be personalized and hand painted. Instead of putting a wall between the living room and your kitchen, why not use a shoji screen? It not only adds a touch of Asian charm it also conserves space.

Asian lamps. One of the easiest and cheapest ways to add a touch on Asia in any home is by using Asian inspired lighting. There are many designs to choose from. This is especially true in the winter and spring months what with rain gear, coats, shoes and junk mail on that table by the door. If you have gotten to the point of looking online for a solution then you have definitely stumbled upon the right article. It is about organization but there are some tools that can be of great use in this endeavor.

Take stock of what is actually in the area in question. What types of items are being stored there? Is this where all of it belongs or are their items that could be stored elsewhere? If the answer is yes then that is where you should begin. Remove all the items that just do not belong.

Now from what remains begin making groups out of like items. You need to decide what if any of these items in each pile do you really need to keep by the door. Keep only what is necessary and store the rest somewhere else.

Add a wall rack or standing coat rack in the area. Hang up all coats. Next put a shoe rack in the area for shoe storage. Use decorative baskets to hold scarves, umbrellas and such. If there is room you can put a storage bench in there to have a place to not only store items but to sit while donning your shoes or boots.

There may be a limited amount of space but with careful planning you can design an area that is not only functional but also decorative. Do not lose out on style for the sake of organization. Everything needs to have a place to belong and with a bit of ingenuity you can create a well crafted entryway that not lonely is organized but looks great and makes a statement. This is the first opportunity a visitor will have to see the inside of your space. Consider adding a beautiful designed tabletop waterfall in your entryway. Give them something to look at and whet their appetite for what is to come. The beauty of a well decorated home can be greatly diminished by a cluttered entryway.

Finally if you like great pieces of furniture invest in a Hall tree. It will provide abundant storage and it has a display shelf and pegs for hanging coats and hats on.

------------------------------------------------------

Browse the beautiful collection of our bamboo fountains and glass vases to decorate your entry way and create a beautiful and feng-shui enhanced entryway.

No related posts.

Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.

Kula Botanical Garden – A Real Gem

All

This is one of the most calming places to visit in Maui. I spent couple of hours in this place and I was completely rejuvenated and refreshed. Don't miss out on this Real Gem the next time you visit Maui...
