For most people, relaxation means watching their favorite movie after work or getting in extra sleep over the weekend. However, this is not a very good way to relax and actually does little to decrease the harmful effects of stress on the body. If you want to combat stress then you have to choose a natural relaxation response. Some examples of these are visualization, yoga, prayer and meditation, exercise and deep breathing. Most people are too busy to fit these in their schedules. But if you truly want to relax then you’ll find time to do them. Trust me, just a few minutes everyday will do wonders for your life.
Contrary to what most people think, we need stress in our lives. It pushes us out of our comfort zones. It makes us more creative and resourceful. It forces us to grow. It only becomes harmful when we allow it to overwhelm us and take control of our lives. Unfortunately for us, stress had become a progressively common characteristic today. This is why it is vital to have relaxation techniques to combat stress.
Without proper relaxation techniques your body can get out of equilibrium. When this happens your immune system weakens and you become more prone to acquiring all kinds of lifestyle diseases. There are many kinds of relaxation techniques that you can use to help bring your body back into equilibrium. This is why extra sleep or watching tv are not really effective ways to relax. The right kind of relaxation involves conscious and focused effort.
Learning how to do proper relaxation techniques is not hard. However they do take practice and discipline. According to stress experts you need to set aside a minimum of 15 minutes a day for relaxation practice. If you want greater results then try it for 30 minutes up to an hour. If that sounds like too much then start small. You can begin at 5 minutes a day. You don’t have to go to some faraway place to do these exercises. You can perform them wherever you are. Of course at least make sure that you are in a calm and quiet environment free from distractions. There is no one relaxation technique that works for everyone. In taking your pick consider your needs and what fits your schedule best. What is important is that you get the results that you want.
Adding water fountains in your home can help relieve stress. A simple mist fountain, solar fountains, or feng shui fountain will not only propose relaxation but will also improve health. For outdoor meditation and yoga, maintaining a healthy view of your landscape with authentic garden planters and glass vases will help restore your vitality and create a wonderful backdrop for your floral arrangements.
